Global recession will definitely affect the Philippine economy in 2009! Are we prepare enough?
I. The RecessionTHE current episode of the US financial crunch is expected to drag the entire global economy into recession.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says the US economy may shrink 0.7 percent by the end of the fourth quarter of 2008, while growth in other centers of capitalism such as Europe, Japan and Canada would substantially slow down to 0.9, 1.4 and 1.3 percent, respectively.
Broadly speaking, recession refers to the fall in economic activity. It is a phase often technically measured as two or more consecutive quarters when the growth rate of the gross domestic product (GDP)—the total production of goods and services of an economy—is negative.
Expert says that the Philippines will definitely feel the impact of the US crisis-lots of job may be lost and the country's capacity to borrow will suffer. *source Philippine Daily Inquirer http://services.inquirer.net/print/print.php?article_id=20081101-169734
II. The Solution
Some businesses seem to strengthen in times of recession. When the economy starts to slow, people start looking around for ways to cut back on expenses, and they give up the frivolous items in favor of the basics.
Despite the recession, the health and wellness industry is swelling with opportunity. Health care is more expensive than ever, and the health care community provides more services than ever. And, as the baby boomers age, the market promises to grow ever larger for products and service that help people live longer, live more comfortably, and live more enjoyable in old age. While you may be likely to come up with some astounding new medical breakthrough in your garage, you may be able to profit from by establishing a delivery service or selling health care products that will generate hefty revenues.
As we said, people don't cut back on their intake of food just because a recession is underway. Instead, they will cut back on the fancy stuff and take a renewed look at how the basics can be made to satisfy their need for variety. A fresh fruit and vegetables always look good. If you have at least a small plot of land you can grown enough food to make a surprisingly good living.
Death is another part of the life cycle that isn't going to stop for a recession, and a well-run funeral parlor will weather the economic storms.Plumbing, electrical, roof repair, termiting and other vital home repair functions will continue to thrive in periods of recession. If homeowners put off maintenance and repairs, it only means that ultimately they will pay a higher price for a greater amount of work.
In bad times, there are always ways to thrive, if you are perceptive and agile. Never feel that because a recession is under way that there are no opportunities open to you.

Is There Such a Thing As a Recession Proof Business and Recession Proof Business Opportunities?
In this article I will try and explain what kind of recession proof business opportunities to look for and what industry I think will be the strongest through this.First of all history has shown that the direct selling industry has been doing very well in a recession and having a direct selling business like an online cellphone store will be a good recession proof business opportunity.
The second factor when looking for recession proof business opportunities is finding the right product to promote. The product that you will be selling must be in high demand and people must buy what you have even when times get tough, in other words you must be selling a necessity and not just a luxury.Let's take a cellphone for example. Could you live without your cell phone? Probably not. Do you think people will still be using their cell phones during a recession? You bet they will.
Taking your business online can also make it recession proof as online businesses doesn't have nearly as much over head and expense as traditional businesses does.Online businesses are inexpensive to setup and very inexpensive to maintain. The opportunity to earn residual income is also very appealing for example. Let's say you have an online wireless store and you sell phone plans and get a commission every time somebody pays their cell phone bill. That means you will get paid every month like clock work for the work that you have done today. That's the power of residual income and it can definitely make a business recession proof.

A Home Based Business That Works for You
Once you’ve chosen to get started in a home based business you’ve got a lot of choices to make, and the biggest one is… what company to become a part of? In this article we’ll be talking about ways that you can find the home based business that’s right for you!
There are several different elements to finding the right home based business; the product, compensation plan, upfront cost, time commitment and choosing a sponsor. These 5 factors are key in finding the home based business that is going to allow you to succeed.
First let’s talk about product. All home based businesses offer some kind of a product or service that you’re going to be marketing. If a company DOESN’T have a product that is a big red light it means the company isn’t legitimate. Therefore, do not even consider it.
When it comes to choosing a product you’ll want to find something that you are passionate about and that you can market with enthusiasm. If you don’t like the product or service you’re promoting, you won’t be any good in the business… period. Sure you may be able to market it for a little while but after a while you’ll grow tired of pushing products you don’t believe in to the general public.
Decide if you want to market a physical product or some kind of service. You don’t have to know everything about the product but it is good to find out if it really has quality and is going to be of value for the consumer. Once you’ve found the product you’d like to market, move on to question number two; your compensation plan.
There are a lot of different compensation plans out there in the home based business industry. Some are good and some are GREAT. Some are designed to allow you to make a lot of money up front and others are more tailored to building a steady stream of income that will be around for a very long time.
So when looking at a comp. plan you’ll need to ask yourself this… how much money do I need to make up front to be happy?Talk to people who have been in the business before and get testimonies. Find out if the comp. plan really delivers on its promise. Then start thinking about number three… up front or start up fees; initial investment.
Whenever I talk to people about a start up cost they usually get a little spooked at this point. The truth is that any LEGAL business costs money to start. A job you get for free but a business will always cost money, that’s just how it is. The saying: "It takes money to make money" is a true statement as an entrepreneur.
You’ll want to figure out just how much money you are willing to invest in a business up front. A home based business can cost anywhere from $50 - $5000 an it’s a personal choice how much you want to spend. Sometimes the $50 company can be just as lucrative as the more expensive one… but it’s all up to you.
If you are married, sit down and talk to your spouse about just how much money you can afford to invest. It’s a personal decision that has to be made by both parties in a marital state.
The fourth thing you’ll want to think about is time. How much time are you willing or able to invest in a business up front. Some home based businesses are more part time than others.
In some companies you’ll need to spend just a few hours a week to see success. In others, it will be more like a full time job. Like the question of money only you can decide how much time you are really able to devote to a home based business; particularly in the beginning stages. Also feel free to ask the person in the business you are thinking about joining how much time you will really need to spend to be successful. Success stories and personal testimonies are a real perk in a home-based business and often serve as the platform for topics presented at a major business conference seminar.
Finally there is the question of picking the right trainer for you. Like the other questions this is a very personal issue that only you can really decide on but finding someone that you like and respect is very important. You are encouraged to perform your due diligence. Look at it is a reverse interview to ensure that this person who is prospecting you has your best interest.
You want to work with someone who is going to invest some time into making sure you are as prepared for success as possible and most importantly you want to work with someone who has the knowledge and the know how to show you exactly how to become successful.
If you answer each of these questions and take your time you will have no problem finding the home based business that is exactly what you need to become extremely successful. Follow your instincts, do your research and there is no doubt you will be on your way to a successful career working from home.

The Next Trillion Dollar Industry: The Opportunity Within
In analyzing these two gigantic industrial complexes, Pilzer
focuses on an emerging "wellness"
industry that will soon occupy an additional one-seventh, or "next trillion," of the economy—an industry ripe with entrepreneurial opportunities that will eclipse those of today’s Internet-based companies. In The Next Trillion, Pilzer explains why consumers will turn away from consuming more material goods and instead seek to achieve internal self-improvement—healthier foods, vitamins, nutritional supplements and fitness programs—and why consumers will create a virtually limitless and sustained demand for wellness-based products.
Many of the products that will take this new industry from a few billion dollars to a few trillion are still in the laboratory. Yet, as Pilzer explains, the greatest entrepreneurial opportunities will be in distributing rather than in manufacturing wellness products and services.
The Next Trillion is for businesspeople and consumers wanting to control where one-seventh of their earnings go every year. It is important for anyone who’s ever tried to control their weight or maximize their health, or for anyone working in today's healthcare industry. And it is a critical must-read for entrepreneurs who want to know where the greatest opportunities lie ahead in the next two decades.
Above all, The Next Trillion offers an exhilarating vision of health and fitness—true wellness that is far more than skin deep.
